Flood Risk in Real Estate
2 clock hours for Maine Real Estate Licensees
Flood Risk in Real Estate is a live-stream course taught via ZOOM.
This course will provide licensees with an overview of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and explore the impacts of flood zone mapping and insurance on real estate transactions.
Students will learn terminology and concepts important in understanding the complex situations that may arise if a property scales in a high risk flood zone, such as disputing a flood zone determination, using an Elevation Certificate to reduce a flood insurance premium, or preparing for the impact of a flood map change on property value.
With the NFIP?s increasing fiscal instability, advances in mapping technology, and policy reform, many changes are underway and will continue in the future, so it is important for all real estate professionals to be well-informed. The principal objective is to provide them with knowledge and resources that will enhance client representation.
Flood Zone Mapping & Risk: A Guide for Real Estate Professionals
3 clock hours for Maine Real Estate Licensees
This course will focus on floodplain management as it relates to real estate transactions, lender requirements, property values, development planning, and risk mitigation. As consultants in the industry, we receive many requests from real estate agents and brokers inquiring whether a property is in a flood zone. We will provide an interactive demonstration to teach students how to access flood maps online. Giving careful consideration to the fact that real estate licensees are not floodplain managers, this tutorial will primarily inform on the process involved, the resources available, and the potential outcomes that arise from flood zone determinations.
